Dmitriy Stolyarov
Professor of Economics, University of Michigan
I am a Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Michigan and a Research Professor at the Survey Research Center of the Institute for Social Research. I direct the Master of Applied Economics program.
My research is in macroeconomics, growth, financial economics and household finance. I study how technological change is reflected in asset values and productivity, the economics of retirement and household behavior over the life cycle, long-run interest rate trends, and the dynamics of markets for durable goods. Recent work includes a factor model for pricing municipal bond portfolios, models of punctuated technological progress and valuation cycles, and innovation accounting beyond the Solow residual.
From 2023 to 2025 I was Director of the Michigan Retirement and Disability Research Center, and from 2009 to 2023 Associate Director of the Michigan Retirement Research Center. I received a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1999 and an M.S. and B.S. in Applied Mathematics from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. I was an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow in 2004–2006.
